The Association of Friends and Supporters of the Science Media Center Germany gGmbH e. V. promotes the idea of SMC and both advises us and critically monitors our activities. Moreover, a raft of supporting members from academia, business, the media and society make long-term contributions to financing SMC.

We value the diversity of our members and welcome everyone who contributes to realising the purpose of the association – the promotion of dialogue between academia, the media and the public.

The association and its members

There is a large variety of organisations and individual members in the Association of Friends: scholarly societies, media organisations, private individuals, universities, foundations.

Statutes

The association is represented by its board which is elected for three years by the general assembly.

Everyone is welcome to become a member be they a natural person or legal entity, an association or society. Our existing friends reflect this diversity.

The association was established in 2016 based on the conviction that academia and journalism are two cornerstones of democracy that must work together. Thirteen institutions from academia, business and society came together in Heidelberg. We should like to thank them for this pioneering work.
